Supervisors are leaders who lead and
give instructions or orders to subordinates. They are responsible for the work
and actions of other employees. In my opinion, some of the important qualities
that I think a good supervisor should have are justice, consideration, and good
leadership.
First of all, a good supervisor or
boss should not be partial or biased; instead they should be fair and just. As being the
leader, you should treat all subordinates fairly. You should never favor a
person more over than others due to any particular reasons. For example, if you
were to choose an employee between the two, which one is your relatives and the
other one is just an employee in the company, who would take over this big case
in the company, who would you choose? If you chose your relative because he is
related to you, then you are showing unfairness. But if you chose carefully for
the one that is more qualified then you are being fair.
Secondly, a good supervisor or boss
should be considerate. When subordinates got problems or make mistakes, you
should not scold them or be haughty
just because your position is higher than theirs. As being a supervisor, when
they make mistakes, you are supposed to tell them and give some advises on how
to change and improve their work. Sometimes supervisors and bosses should also
listen to their subordinates because you make mistakes too and your ideas are
not always the best. So you should never look down on them for the reason of
their peccadilloes
or them being delinquent
because we are all humans, we are not perfect or impeccable, but we are fallible.
The last but not the least, a good
supervisor or boss should have a good leadership. A good leadership does not
mean that you control everything and be like a dictator where everyone listens
to you. Instead, a good leadership means you set yourself as a good example,
listen to your subordinates, and never ask them to do things yourself are not willing to do. Besides from these, I believe a good leadership needs be
experienced so that when there are problems or situations that subordinates can’t
handle, you being as a leader knows how to guide and solve the problems
together with your subordinates.
In conclusion, a good supervisor or
boss should be fair, considerate because you yourself makes mistakes too, and
be experienced and know how to lead and guide your subordinates. So, some of
the basic, important qualities that I think a supervisor or boss should have
are justice, consideration, and good leadership.
